The Nasarawa State Government has charged the management of Nasarawa United Football Club to win the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) in the 2025/2026 season or at least secure a continental ticket.

Mr Yakubu Kwanta, the Commissioner for Youths and Sports Development, gave the charge on friday in Lafia at a farewell ceremony before the team’s departure for preseason training in Abuja.

Kwanta assured the players and technical crew of the government’s full support, promising to provide all necessary welfare and logistics to help them achieve the set goal. The move signals the administration’s commitment to raising the bar for sports in the state.

He explained that the approval for the signing of the 15 new players by the club was part of the boost to fortify the team ahead of the season.

The commissioner further stated that the allowances of the players and technical crew would be reviewed upward and paid promptly, allowing them to focus on their target.

“As the season starts, if there are any issues that will affect the club, you must find a way of talking to us for a prompt response,” Kwanta added.

Also speaking, Solomon Babanja, Chairman, Nasarawa United FC, appreciated the state government for the continued support.

The chairman promised that the team would play every game as it is, adding that the team is now better than it was last season.

Responding on behalf of the players, King Osanga, Captain of the team, appreciated the government’s support and encouragement and promised not to disappoint the state
