The Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ court in ibadan has arraigned two women, sekinat olayiwola, 37, and zainab adesina, 30, on a three-count charge of conspiracy, fraud, and stealing. The duo is alleged to have defrauded a rice trader of N2.06 million.
The prosecutor, CPL. Akeem Akinloye, told the court that the defendants allegedly conspired and obtained the money from the complainant, rukayat adeboye, on may 30 in the sawmill area of ibadan.
Following the charge, the defendants pleaded not guilty. The chief magistrate subsequently granted them bail and adjourned the case for further hearing, pending the submission of formal legal advice from the office of the director of public prosecutions.
According to him, the defendants fraudulently obtained the sum of N2,060,000 from the complainant under the pretext of supplying her with 40 bags of rice but failed to do so.
Akinloye alleged that the money was transferred into a Moniepoint account (number 5043533741) belonging to Olayiwola.
He said the defendants converted the money to their personal use.
The prosecutor stated that the offences contravened Sections 390(9), 419 and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The defense counsel, Mr. Abdulfatai Ogundeji, urged the court to grant the defendants bail on liberal terms.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Olabisi Ogunkanmi, admitted each defendant to bail in the sum of N1 million, with two sureties each in like sum.
Ogunkanmi ordered that one of the sureties must be a blood relative of the defendants and adjourned the case until Nov. 27 for hearing.
