Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has congratulated Senator Musiliu Obanikoro on his 65th birthday, commending his years of selfless service and dedication to the state’s development.
In a statement issued Monday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile, the governor lauded the former Minister of State for Defence and Governance Advisory Council (GAC) member for his commitment to public service at both state and national levels.
“On behalf of my wife, Ibijoke, the people and government of Lagos State, and the APC and GAC members, I congratulate Senator Obanikoro,” he said.
Sanwo-Olu described Obanikoro as one of Nigeria’s most decorated politicians, having served diligently as chairman, commissioner, senator, minister, and high commissioner.
He noted that Obanikoro had contributed to national growth through his various roles over two decades in public service.
The governor described him as a seasoned politician and administrator who has positively impacted Lagos, his community, and Nigeria at large.
Sanwo-Olu recalled his achievements as Chairman of Lagos Island Local Government, where he advanced grassroots development.
He also commended Obanikoro’s work as Commissioner for Home Affairs and Culture from 1999 to 2003.
According to the governor, Obanikoro was a good ambassador of Lagos as Senator representing Lagos Central in the Fifth Senate.
As a lawmaker, he contributed significantly to legislative work in the National Assembly.
Sanwo-Olu also acknowledged his service as Nigeria’s High Commissioner to Ghana and Minister of State in two ministries.
He lauded Obanikoro’s dedication and good track record in each of these roles.
