They described Buhari as a dedicated leader who served Nigeria with honour and stood firmly for integrity and national unity throughout his public life.
Jonathan commended Buhari’s contributions to democratic governance and national stability, noting that his legacy would continue to shape the country’s political landscape for years to come.
Akufo-Addo recalled Buhari’s strong pan-African stance, saying the former Nigerian leader championed regional peace, economic cooperation, and the fight against terrorism in West Africa.
Their tributes were delivered during a condolence visit to Nigeria’s Vice-President, Sen. Kashim Shettima, who is currently in London with a presidential delegation.
Mr Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications, Office of the Vice President, disclosed this in a statement issued in Abuja.
He said the meeting was deeply emotional, with both leaders expressing solidarity with the Nigerian government and people during this time of national mourning.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Shettima travelled on President Bola Tinubu’s directive to accompany Buhari’s body back home from London.
The delegation comprises Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, and Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Zulum.
Also in the team are the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Amb. Yusuf Tuggar, and Deputy Chief of Staff to the President, Sen. Ibrahim Hadejia.
The presidency stated that every effort was being made to ensure a dignified return and a befitting burial for the late statesman.
