The upcoming Law Week of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Ikeja Branch, is poised to become a crucial forum for introspection and strategic dialogue within the legal community. Mr. Chukwudi Enebeli (SAN), chairman of the Law Week Planning Committee, confirmed that the event will provide lawyers with a vital platform to critically examine prevailing issues of professionalism, ongoing reforms, and ethical standards.
Enebeli conveyed these intentions during a news conference held on Friday in Ikeja. scheduled to run from July 11 to 17, the 2025 Law Week has articulated an ambitious agenda. this program is specifically designed to reinvigorate the core tenets of legal professionalism while comprehensively addressing the multifaceted challenges currently confronting Nigeria’s legal profession, signaling a concerted effort towards its future resilience and integrity.
Listing activities for the week-long event themed “Preserving the Legal Profession for Tomorrow,” the learned silk described the theme as timely and necessary, given the decline in ethics and professionalism in recent years.
“That is why this year’s theme serves as a reminder of where we stand, both as professionals and as Nigerians,” he said.
The senior lawyer said the event would start with Jumat service on July 11 at the Ikeja Central Mosque.
He further stated that the Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr Ola Olukoyede, would deliver the keynote address at the event.
According to him, the EFCC chairman will lead discussions on legal reforms, ethics, and the future of the profession during the plenary sessions scheduled for July 15 at the Marriott Hotel, GRA, Ikeja.
He said 30 distinguished professionals who had made remarkable strides beyond the courtroom would be highlighted.
He said: “A church service and thanksgiving will take place on July 13 at 10.00 a.m. at the Bar Centre, while an opening cocktail is scheduled for July 14 at 5.00 p.m., also at the Bar Centre.
“The event will continue on July 16 at the Providence Hotel, GRA Ikeja, with another round of morning and afternoon sessions.
“The grand finale will be the Alao Aka-Bashorun, CON, Memorial Lecture, scheduled for July 17 at Providence Hotel, GRA in Ikeja.”
The Chairman of the Branch, Mr Adeniyi Quadri, said the law week was designed to address the challenges confronting the legal profession and to propose lasting solutions.
