World’s richest man, Elon Musk, is deepening his incursion into politics as he has announced the formation of a new political party called the American Party.
The project may further distance him from President Donald Trump, with whom he became estranged after substantially funding the Republican leader’s campaign.
Musk describes the American Party as the second to the Republican and Democratic, which he wrote off ass been one united by waste and graft.
“When it comes to bankrupting our country with waste and graft, we live in a one-party system, not a democracy.
“Today, the America Party is formed to give you back your freedom,” the Space X and Tesla boss posted on X, the social media platform that he owns.
Musk cited a poll — posted on X on Friday, US Independence Day — in which he asked whether respondents “want independence from the two-party (some would say uniparty) system” that has dominated US politics for some two centuries.
The yes-or-no survey earned more than 1.2 million responses.
“By a factor of 2 to 1, you want a new political party and you shall have it!” he posted on Saturday.
