Expert Urges Boost in Child Cancer Awareness Starting at the Grassroots Level

Fadahunsi advocated for greater grassroots awareness of pediatric cancer at a gathering hosted by the Okapi Children Cancer Foundation (OkapiCCF) in Abuja. She emphasized that raising awareness will assist communities realize that children with cancer had a possibility of survival in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday.

Fadahunsi identified two main reasons why parents frequently turn to alternative care, such as prayer houses or traditional healers, instead of prompt medical assistance: a lack of knowledge and the high expense of therapy. Children are typically taken to hospitals at an advanced stage as a result of this delay, which lowers their chances of recovery.

She called on the government to give grassroots initiatives to enhance early diagnosis, treatment, and education top priority. She emphasized the vital importance that early intervention has in saving young lives by saying, “There is an urgent need for more advocacy and awareness on child cancer.”
