Man, 57, arraigned for allegedly defrauding victim of N5.3 million

A 57-year-old man, Ramon Animashaun, was on Thursday arraigned before an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan for allegedly defrauding a victim of N5.3 million.

The defendant, whose address was not disclosed, pleaded not guilty to two counts of obtaining money under false pretences and stealing.

According to the prosecutor, ASP Musbau Lawal, the alleged offence took place on May 4, 2024, at Mokola area of Ibadan.

The case was adjourned for further hearing.

Lawal said that the defendant obtained the money from the complainant, Mr Adisa Jimoh, on the pretext of selling a plot of land to him, but failed to do so.

 

He said the defendant converted the money to his personal use.

 

Lawal said the offences contravened Sections 419 and 390 (9) of the Criminal Law of Oyo State, 2000.

 

The Magistrate, Mr Olaolu Olanipekun, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N1 million with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case until July 14 for mention.
