A 39-year-old man, Rafiu Ademola, was arraigned on Thursday before an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan for allegedly defrauding a land buyer of N1.4 million.
The police charged Ademola with obtaining money under false pretences and stealing. He pleaded not guilty to both counts.
According to the prosecutor, Insp. Opeyemi Olagunju, the defendant allegedly took N1.4 million from Mr. Azeez Odunayo on February 20 at the Ojoo area of Ibadan, claiming he would sell him two plots of land — a promise he failed to fulfill.
The case continues at a later date.
Olagunju said that the offences contravened Sections 419 and 390(9) of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
The Magistrate, Mrs Gladys Oladele, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Oladele ordered that one of the sureties must be a blood relation to the defendant.
She adjourned the case until Aug. 8 for mention.
