Residents of Epe Local Government Area have praised council chairperson Surah Animashahun for distributing empowerment tools and cash support aimed at improving livelihoods at the grassroots.
The appreciation came on Wednesday during the handover event held at the council secretariat, where beneficiaries received items such as sewing machines, grinding machines, hair dryers, barbing kits, gas cylinders, popcorn makers, and generators.
Many others also received cash to boost their small businesses and meet essential household needs.
One of the beneficiaries, Mr Raymond Eturugu, described the gesture as a timely intervention in the lives of many struggling families.
“This will greatly help me become self-reliant,” he said.
Mrs Yewande Alogba, also expressed her gratitude after receiving financial assistance to boost her small business.
“This cash support will go a long way in helping me restock my goods and expand my customer base,” she said.
Similarly, Mrs Yejide Alaka, noted that the equipment she received would significantly support her family’s livelihood.
“I now have the tools I need to start a trade and contribute meaningfully to my household income,” she said.
Another recipient, Mr Tunde Adekoya, said, “With this support, I can now start earning a living and provide for my family without depending on others”.
In her remarks, Ms Surah Animashahun, reaffirmed her commitment to the welfare of Epe residents, stressing that empowerment remained a core priority of her administration.
“I will continue to look back and give to the people who entrusted me with this mandate,” she said.
She added that the council would continue to initiate people-centred programmes aimed at economic empowerment and poverty alleviation.
Animashahun reiterated her resolve to build a more inclusive and prosperous local government through sustained grassroots initiatives.
Earlier, Mr Abiodun Tobun, Member, House of Assembly, representing Epe Constituency 1, urged the beneficiaries to make good use of the items and funds provided.
