Contractors commend UMTH for transparency in 2025 project bidding

Contractors participating in the 2025 capital project bidding at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH) have praised the hospital’s management for its transparent and straightforward approach throughout the bidding process.

The commendation came shortly after the conclusion of the financial bidding session held on Tuesday in Maiduguri.

Speaking to reporters, several contractors highlighted the fairness and clarity of both the technical and financial bidding stages, noting that the procedures were well-organized and professionally handled.

“This is one of the few times we’ve experienced such transparency in public project bidding,” one contractor said. “From the start, everything was open, and we were properly guided at each stage.”

The positive feedback underscores growing efforts to promote accountability and fairness in public procurement processes, particularly in federal institutions. UMTH officials expressed satisfaction with the smooth execution and reaffirmed their commitment to upholding integrity and due process in all contracts.

The 2025 capital projects at UMTH are expected to include critical infrastructure upgrades, medical equipment procurement, and facility expansions to improve healthcare delivery in the region.

Alhaji Abubakar Ibn Umar, one of the contractors, who spoke on behalf of the companies which participated in the financial bidding, said the representatives of all the companies present during the bidding gave him the mandate to speak on their behalf.

Umar, however, expressed satisfaction with the way and manner the committee that was set up by the management to verify their submission after the technical bidding of June 10 carried out its assignment in a transparent manner.

The contractor also commended the way and manner the financial bidding was successfully conducted without any fear or favour.

Umar assured the hospital management of the contractors’ commitment to deliver quality job for the hospital within the stipulated period agreed on.

Earlier, the Chief Medical Director of the UMTH, Prof. Ahmed Ahidjo, who was represented by Prof. Madu Kagu, said that the technical bidding had already been conducted a week ago.

Ahidjo said that the technical bidding was carried out in accordance with Procurement Act by the companies that indicated interest iin all the contracts advertised by the UMTH on national dailies.

He, however, said that only companies which met the requirement after the technical bidding were invited for the financial bidding.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that some of the contracts bidded for include training of clinical and non-clinical staff, procurement and installation of cardiac heart centre equipment (other cardiac equipment and fittings) and procurement and installation of cardiac heart centre (open heart surgery twin theatre).

Others are the nuclear medicine centre upgrade (furniture), upgrade of sports centre (works), upgrade of pharmacy department (works), upgrade of laboratories (works) and upgrade of schools (school of nursing extention).

Development of Abuja liaison office, procurement and installation of ICT school furniture and procurement and installation of stroke centre equipment and fittings.
