Mr Jamiu Ayinde, a legal practitioner based in Ilorin, has urged all levels of government to organize free vocational training programs for youths to tackle unemployment in the country.
He made the call on Saturday during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ilorin.
Ayinde stressed that the economy would improve if youths became self-employed instead of relying on government jobs.
“Government should focus on empowering youths with skills and opportunities to give them hope,” he said.
“Organising free vocational training for the youths will significantly help reduce the alarming rate of unemployment in the country.
“When the youth population is self-employed, the pressure will reduce and the country’s economy will grow,” he said.
The lawyer also called on non- governmental organisations to focus their programmes on youth empowerment to support government efforts.
