Renaissance Africa Energy Company Limited has taken swift action to safeguard the environment following the detection of an oil leak from its facility in Ikata, Rivers State.
The company, a consortium of five Nigerian firms that recently took over Shell’s onshore assets, announced on Tuesday that it had shut down crude supply through the 14-inch Okordia–Rumuekpe Pipeline as a precautionary measure.
According to spokesman Mr. Michael Adande, the decision was driven by a commitment to environmental responsibility and community safety. “We have isolated the affected section to prevent further impact and are actively engaging response teams,” he said.
The proactive containment move underscores the company’s emphasis on sustainable operations and its pledge to uphold high safety and environmental standards in the oil and gas sector.

He further said that Renaissance was working with regulators to convene a Joint Investigative Visit (JIV) to the impacted site.
Reports shows that JIV is a statutory probe that follows reported oil spill incidents by the operator, regulators and host communities to ascertain the cause, volume and impacts.
