As the Nigerian Super Eagles land in Kigali, Rwanda, ahead of their important 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Rwanda’s Amavubi, hope of soccer-addicted Nigerians has been renewed.
The team’s standing is currently fragile but the fans believe Nigeria still has the stars that can turn the table.
“With the super forms of Osimhen, Lookman and Ola Aina, we should be able to win the remaining matches,” says Tunde Fatunbi, a Lagos-based soccer lover.
Head coach Eric Chelle and his coaching staff landed in Kigali on Sunday, March 16, 2025, to oversee training sessions. The match is set to take place at Amahoro Stadium on Friday, March 21, 2025.
The Super Eagles are currently in fifth place in Group C with just three points from four matches. This makes the upcoming game a must-win for Nigeria to stay in the race for World Cup qualification.
Meanwhile, Rwanda is leading Group C with seven points. Head coach Adel Amrouche has called up a 28-man squad, including 13 foreign-based players, for the match.
To boost support for the team, arrangements have been made to fly Nigerian supporters and officials to Kigali on chartered aircraft.
Former Nigerian international, Emmanuel Amuneke, has sent a message to the team, urging them to give their best in the matches against Rwanda and Zimbabwe.
After playing Rwanda, the Super Eagles will return to Nigeria for their next qualifier against Zimbabwe at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo on March 25, 2025.
The Nigerian football community is hopeful that the Super Eagles will win these crucial matches and improve their chances of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
