Two men, Abdullahi Monday (22) and Daniel Emmanuel (22), were on Friday brought before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged assault and malicious damage.
The defendants, whose addresses were not stated, are facing a two-count charge of assault and malicious damage.
The police prosecutor, Insp Akinwale Oriyomi, told the court that the defendants and one other at large committed the offence on March 11 at about 9:30 p.m at Idi-Ishin Area in Ikere-Ekiti.
Oriyomi alleged that the defendants and one other at large, assaulted one Alofin Ayomide by beating her during an argument.
He also alleged that the defendants and one other at large, maliciously broke and damaged the screen of one infinix smart 5 mobile phone, valued at N55,000, belonging to the complainant.
Oriyomi said the offences contravened Section 183 and are punishable under Section185 and Section 354 of the Criminal Laws of Ekiti State, 2021.
The prosecutor asked the court for adjournment to enable him to study the case file and present his witnesses.
The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against them.
Counsel to the defendants, Mr Victor Saliu, urged bail for the defendants and promised that they would not jump bail.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Olarewaju Owoleso, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N35,000 with two sureties each in like sum.
He adjourned the case till April 15 for hearing.
