Scheduled to take place from February 6 to 19, 2024, in Los Angeles, California, the 2024 Pan African Film Festival (PAFF) has announced the inclusion of two Nigerian feature films, ‘Mojisola’ and ‘This Is Lagos,’ in its prestigious lineup. The festival, dedicated to celebrating black film, art, and culture, will showcase over 140 films, complemented by a diverse range of Q&A sessions and in-depth discussions.
Kenneth Gyang, the director of both selected Nigerian features, expressed his enthusiasm for this year’s festival selection, noting the significance of PAFF in initiating the celebrations for Black History Month. Gyang remarked, “The Pan African Film Festival holds immense significance as it kickstarts the celebrations for Black History Month, providing a vital platform for cultural exchange and representation of diverse narratives from the African diaspora.”
‘This Is Lagos’ unfolds the narrative of Stevo, a young man navigating the pursuit of superstardom in the bustling city of Lagos, featuring a cast led by Gabriel Afolayan, Ikechukwu Onunaku, Rahama Sadau, Kate Henshaw, and more.
‘Mojisola,’ on the other hand, depicts the journey of a young girl on a quest to save her love while confronting an unexplainable life-threatening illness.
Gyang, returning to the festival a decade after his first feature film was selected in 2014, expressed his delight, saying, “I am happy to be back there again. In 2014, my first feature film ‘Confusion Na Wa’ won the Jury Prize there. Ten years later, I am happy to be back with two features.”
