Rep. Regina Akume (APC- Gboko/Tarka) has asked all Nigerians to show gratitude to God for the continuous corporate existence of the country, following the successful conclusion of the 2023 presidential election process.
Akume, while addressing newsmen on Tuesday in Abuja, urged Nigerians to key into the one-day praise, worship and prayers for Nigeria, organised by a group of clerics, under the auspices of National Solemn Assembly.
The lawmaker stressed the need for praying and supporting President Bola Tinubu and other leaders at all levels for efficient delivery of dividends of democracy.
Represented by Mrs Roselyn Akume, the legislator said that the event, scheduled for Dec.1, would coincide with her birthday, saying that she and her fellow lawmakers would be at the prayer and praise session.
“Nigeria, at a time like this, needs all the prayers. We need prayers for healing, unity, prosperity, togetherness and better future, and there can be no better time than now.
“This is the only country that we have; we all belong here. We believe in Nigeria. We love Nigeria,” she said.
In his remarks, Chairman of the group, Archbishop Leonard Kawas, said that a 40-day fast had been declared in the build-up to the event.
Kawas said that there was the need to pray for the legislators, the judicial officers, governors and leaders across all levels.
“The fast will terminate on Nov. 31, which will be the day before the National Solemn Assembly.
“We are calling on volunteers from all churches to join in the fast for the purpose of the national solemn assembly.
“It is to bring thanksgiving, praise and worship onto God because He has been good to us as a nation.
“God has not allowed the prophecies of doom to come to pass in our nation. Therefore, it is important for us to come together and praise Him, that after all the elections, we are still together.
“There are those who said Nigeria would fall off or fall apart after the election but God did not allow it to happen.
“Some said okay, it would be after the tribunal, but after the tribunal, we are still together; some said it would be after the Supreme Court but even after that, we are still together,” he said.
