Love is sweet. But, at times, it is a double-edge phenomenon. Rather than reaping bountifully all through, the lover can end up as a victim.
This happens to be the fate of some of the love-struck characters in JAGUNJAGUN, Femi Adebayo’s movie that is rolling gleefully on Netflix.
Ajitoni, acted by Ayisat Lawal, is a victim of love in JAGUNJAGUN. Her sweetheart, Wehinwo (Yemi Eleshao), whom she loves so much that she sees other men as rags, is brutally burnt alive by Ogundiji.
Ironically, Elesho too is a victim of love in the film. He decides to show love to three warriors remanded by Ogundiji by giving them food. When the iron man discovers this, he sentences him to death by fire.
If we do not call Iroyinogunkiitan a victim of love, her lover, Gbotija, played by Lateef Adedimeji, is. Although he wins the terrible war against his draconian master, Ogundiji, he eventually loses his darling, Iroyinogunkiitan, whom he himself kills when she disguises as Agemo.
In a way, Ogundiji too is a victim of love. He brutalises other people, old and young, but he so much loves his own son that he keeps him away in charge of the regent Adele Oyenike played by Peju Ogunmola. It is when his wife, Erinfunto, played by Fathia Williams, knows that a domestic war erupts in their home because she had chosen to be barren in service of their diabolical powers.
In other words, Fathia is also a victim of love in JAGUNJAGUN!
