Current economic hardships in Nigeria would soon become history, Justice AbdulLateef Kamaldeen, Kwara Grand Khadi, Sharia Court of Appeal, has declared.
He made the declaration on Wednesday in Ilorin in a message he sent to the commemoration of the beginning of the Islamic New Year, Muharram 1445.
“Whatever has a beginning must have an end, so it is a matter of time; the turbulent period will soon be over.
“Let’s emulate what Islam preaches about obeying the people at the helm of affairs and pray for their success and accomplishment,” he stated in the message delivered on his behalf by Justice Sarafadeen Anafi.
The commemoration of the year was organised by the Hijrah Organisation of Nigeria.
Justice Kamaldeen urged Muslims to persevere during difficult times, like the period of fuel subsidy removal that had made cost of living prohibitive.
“Going by the difficulties experienced by Prophet Muhammad and his companions that led to their migration from Makkah to Madinah, I urge every citizen to manage the situation well,’’ he admonished.
The Grand Khadi explained that Hijra marked a beginning of new era, culture and history for the whole of mankind and lessons learnt very crucial and essential to the lives of Muslims.
In his remarks, Chairman of the occasion, Justice Idris Haroon noted that Ilorin is a torchbearer of Islamic scholarship, co-existence and religious tolerance.
He, however, frowned at the emergence of some practices and incidences that were alien to the identity of Ilorin and inconsistent with its history and heritage.
Also addressing the ceremony, Prof. Badmas Yusuf, Chairman, Hijrah Organisation of Nigeria expressed appreciation of the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, and Gov. AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for their efforts in ensuring peaceful community.
He enjoined governments at all levels to address prevalent insecurity, inflation and food shortages in the country.
Yusuf advised returning Hajj pilgrims to desist from all anti-Islamic receptions that might be organised in their honour and activities capable of invalidating their journey to the holy land.
He also advised Muslim parents to monitor their children’s ways of dressing to promote sanity in the society.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Alhaji Sulu-Gambari graced the occasion alongside other dignitaries.
Gov. AbdulRazaq had earlier declared Wednesday work-free day to celebrate the New Islamic Year.
