United States women team broke records on Tuesday when it walloped Thailand 13-0 at the ongoing World Cup in France.
It was particularly a great day for US striker, Alex Morgan, who netted five goals as they began their Women’s World Cup defence in style.
But the way they demolished Thailand in Reims and continued to celebrate is earning them mockery.
Some concerned people said they needed not humiliate Thailand, who are in the tournament for the first time.
While some said they could have tactically halted scoring, others said they needed not go wild each time they scored, to the point that they “celebrated the 13th goal as if it was the first.”
The reigning champions had to wait five days to start their campaign but produced an outstanding performance that doubled as the biggest win in tournament history, surpassing Germany’s 11-0 trashing of Argentina in 2007.
Morgan took her goal tally at the international level to 106 with her well taken free kick, while Samantha Mewis added a double and was involved in setting up another two goals.
