Mr Adamson Adeboro an Abuja-based Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) on Thursday highlighted reasons many Nigerian lawyers remain unemployed.
He also advocated for positive change in status of Nigerian lawyers to ensure improvement in their wellbeing.
Adeboro said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja.
“I join other senior lawyers to advocate for the revolution of lawyers to ensure that their wellbeing is taken care of in terms of welfare packages,” he said.
Adeboro urged the government to provide an enabling environment for practitioners to thrive.
He expressed concern that many lawyers have no place to practise after their graduation because government organisations are saturated.
“A lot of lawyers are coming out from the universities with the intention to practise.
“However, the government organisations are saturated, they are no longer taking job lawyers.
“Now, the burden is on the lawyers who have law firms,” Adeboro said.
He said that the lawyers who were also employers of labour had their own difficulties because of the economic realities in the country.
“So, there is a limit to the number of lawyers such lawyers can employ, otherwise they will over burden their own resources,” Adeboro said.
The SAN said that obviously the economy of the country was not encouraging, so invariably this would affect the law firms and the young lawyers.
However, Adeboro expressed optimism saying that “until we have a good economy, however, what ever resources is available we will manage it”.
