No fewer than 76 people died in Anambra State on Saturday when a boat capsized after developing an engine fault.
The Soludo government has confirmed the tragedy.
According to the Commissioner for Information, Paul Nwosu, the victims were mostly flood victims and women going to a market in another part of the town.
Nwosu noted that the boat was manned by its owner who might have had a quicker solution.
He noted that before the man in control could get it to a place safe for the passengers to disembark, it ran into what he called a collapsed bridge, forcing the boat to capsize.
The accident is one of the rising number of havocs flood is currently wreaking across the country.
From Kogi to Nasarawa and others, it has been stories of destructive flooding, with a report saying it has destroyed up to 4,000 farmlands in Nasarawa.
