A Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, ordered that two friends, Usman Bala and Mohammed Liman, be remanded in a correctional cenre for alleged culpable homicide.

In plain language, they were accused of matcheting a resident to death.

The police charged Bala and Liman, who live in Ungwan Sarki, Kaduna, with criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the Magistrate, Mr Ibrahim Emmanuel, gave the order following the prosecutor, Insp Chidi Leo, made an oral application to that effect.

The prosecutor, who said investigation into the matter was still ongoing, requested that the case file be duplicated and sent to the Directorate of Public Prosecution for legal advice.

Granting the prosecutor’s oral application, the magistrate, who did not take the plea of Bala and Liman, consequently adjourned the case until Oct. 18, for hearing.

Earlier, the prosecutor told the court that the matter was reported at Ungwan Sarki Police Station by Malam Ahmed Danladi on Sept. 5.

He stated that the defendant and two others now at large came to the deceased house one Garba Musa) after an altercation.

Leo said the defendants and their accomplices inflicted injury with a machete on Musa’s head which led to his untimely death.

He said that the offence contravened the provisions of sections 59 and 221 of the Kaduna State Penal Code Law, 2017.
