Two men, Bidemi Emmanuel, 41, and Olatunji Johnson, 40, were on Monday docked in an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court, Ibadan for allegedly stealing church property worth N968, 000.
The duo whose residential addresses were not provided were charged with conspiracy and sacrilege (stealing from a place of worship).
The Prosecutor, ASP Sikiru Ibrahim, told the court that the defendants allegedly committed the offence on June 1, at about 2. 00 a.m., at Lifeline Tabernacle Church, Ring Road, Ibadan.
He alleged that the duo and others at large broke into the church and stole 12 standing fans worth N516, 000, 32 inches LG Television, N35, 000 and one Canon video camera worth N220, 000.
Ibrahim said the defendants also allegedly stole one Jemeni public address system worth N112, 000, one HP laptop worth N85, 000 and N10, 000 cash.
He said the offence contravened Sections 516 and 415 of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Magistrate, Mrs S. A. Adesina, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N200,000 each with two sureties each in like sum, one of which must be a blood relation.
She adjourned the case until Aug. 11 for hearing.
