A 42-year-old hairdresser, Oladunjoye Oluwaseun, was on Thursday docked in a Yaba Chief Magistrates’ court in Lagos for allegedly stealing 162 bags of cement worth N700,000 from her neighbour.
The defendant, who resides in Bariga area of Lagos is facing a two count charge of obtaining credit by false pretence and stealing.
She however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Prosecution Counsel, Insp Modupe Olaluwoye, said that the defendant committed the offence on Dec. 8, 2021, at No. 54 Obayan street, Off Community road in Akoka area of Lagos.
She said defendant has a shop near the complainant, Mrs Oyinkansola Oduneye’s shop and usually sells cement and receives a token from the sale.
She said that the defendant sold 162 bags of cement worth N700,000 when the complainant was not around but did not inform the complainant.
Olaluwoye stated that when the complainant found out, the defendant promised to return the proceeds from the sale but instead, she absconded with the money.
The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of sections 287 and 315 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015. (Revised)
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 315 stipulates 15 years imprisonment for the offence of obtaining credit by false pretence while stealing carries three years.
Chief Magistrate Linda Balogun, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Balogun said that the sureties must be gainfully employed and must show evidence of three years’ tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
She adjourned the case until May 9 for mention.
