The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) says it is deploying no fewer than 757 personnel for its Special Easter Operation in Enugu State.
The Sector Commander, FRSC Enugu State Command, Mr Joseph Toby, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Enugu on Wednesday that the personnel comprised of 490 Regular Marshals and 267 Special Marshals.
Toby said that the command had also deployed 17 vehicles, which included 12 patrol vehicles, three motorcycles, one tow truck and one ambulance for the operation.
According to him, the operation code-named: “Easter Special Patrol Operation” would last for seven days from April 13 to April 20.
The commander said that personnel from the sector command, its five unit commands, one outpost, one Zebra Squad and officers in station offices in the 17 Local Government Areas would be involved in the operation.
He said that the operation would cover major road corridors such as Enugu-Port Harcourt Road, Enugu-Abakaliki Road, Enugu-9th Mile-Awka Road and Enugu-Nsukka-Opi Road.
Toby said that the personnel would work round the clock during the period to ensure that motorists and travelers have seamless experience while plying the roads.
“We have got our men and equipment ready to provide medical emergencies and rescue services any hour of the day.
“We will also be on hand to ensure that speed are minimised and there is minimal road crashes and fatality this festive season,” he said.
The commander advised motorists to ensure they put their vehicles in order before making their journeys to avoid vehicle breakdown and causing inconveniences to other road users.
“At times, the little fault we leave out might develop into a big fault if the vehicle worked for several hours; leading to its unexpected breakdown on the highway and the built up traffic that will follow,” he said.
Toby said that the command would be working in collaboration with other sister security agencies to ensure a smooth and successful operation during the period.

“We are working in close synergy with the Nigeria Police, Nigerian Army, Nigeria Air Force, NSCDC, DSS, state ministry of transport, state fire service and transport unions in the state to make this operation a huge success,” he said.
