An educationist, Alhaji Sahabu Bawuro, has urged Gov. Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa to give priority to the welfare of teachers to enhance delivery of quality education in the state.
Bawuro, who made the appeal on Tuesday in Yola, said enhancing teachers’ welfare was necessary, as it would motivate them to impart qualitative knowledge to students.
“Teachers are the caretakers of the schools and custodians of curriculum who are supposed to be considered first, for the development of education.
“By the time you armed them well with accommodation, allowances, means of transportation among others, it will make them truly comfortable to give attention to the students,” he said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Bawuro presented 2,500 T-shirts and face caps as souvenirs towards the 100 years anniversary of Gen. Murtala Muhammad College, Yola, slated for June.
In his remarks, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, Chairman ad hoc committee of the college alumni association, commended Bawuro for his financial and moral support to the association.
He said that the centenary celebration was postponed in 2020, because of COVID-19 restrictions.
The college began as Provincial Elementary College in 1920, later upgraded to Middle School and Provincial Secondary School in 1955.

It was renamed Government Secondary School in 1966, and to its current name in 1976 to immortalise former Head of State, Gen. Murtala Mohammed.
