A 43-year-old land agent, Abdulkarim Mohammad, was on Wednesday docked in a Kaduna High Court over alleged N1.8million fraud.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission(EFCC) charged Mohammed with fraud.
The EFCC Counsel, Precious Onyeneho, told the court that the defendant committed the offence sometime in March 2020.
Onyeneho informed the court that while acting as a land agent, the defendant dishonestly misappropriated N1.8m belonging to Abubakar Lawal as payment for the purchase of a farmland situated in Maraba Rido, Kaduna.
The anti graft counsel said the defendant diverted the money to his personal use and all effort made by the complainant to get his money back or the farmland failed.
The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of Section 293 of the Kaduna State Penal Code Law, 2017.
In view of the defendant’s plea, the prosecution prayed the court to give a date for trial to begin.
The defence counsel, Garba Ibrahim, urged the court to grant his client bail in the most liberal terms.
Justice Darius Khobo, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000, with two sureties in like sum.

Khobo ordered that each surety must own a landed property and must deposit two passport photographs with the court’s registrar as well as the defendant’s passport.
The judge adjourned the matter until May 24 for trial.
