An Ota Magistrates’ court on Tuesday sentenced a16-year-old boy to 18 months imprisonment for stealing bags, shoes and other valuable items worth N320,000 from four shops.
The Magistrate, V.B Williams, who sentenced the teenager without an option of fine, ordered that he should serve his jail term in a correctional centre.
Williams said that the prosecution proved its case beyond reasonable doubt.
The convict, whose address was not provided, had pleaded not guilty to the charge of theft, burglary and malicious damage.
Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Insp. E.O. Adaraloye told the court that the convict committed the offences on Feb.17 at about 12.30 a.m. at Ewupe, Ota.
Adaraloye said that the convict broke into the shops of Opeyemi Iseh, Hassan Fafolu, James Olaido and Adedamola Damilola, and stole bags, shoes and others valuable items valued at N320,000.
He said that the convict also damaged the celling of the shop, belonging to Opeyemi Iseh.
The prosecutor said that the offences contravened the provisions of Sections 390, 411 and 451 of the Criminal Code Vol.1,Laws of Ogun,2006.
