Driver docked for allegedly stealing 330 bags of cashew nuts

A 28 year-old driver, Ismailia Ganiyu, was on Monday docked in an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing 330 bags of cashew nuts worth N10million.

Ganiyu, whose address was not given, is charged with five counts bordering on forgery, conspiracy, theft and jumping bail.

The Prosecution Counsel, ASP Joseph Jimoh, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on May 11, 2020, at Obanikoro Trailer Motor Park, Ijora Olopa, Lagos State.

He alleged that the defendant and his accomplices, at large, loaded their Lorry with 330 bags of raw cashew nuts worth N10 million, belonging to the complainant, Mr Salami Bello and attempted absconding with the goods..

The prosecutor told the court that the defendant conveyed the goods in a Lorry with forged documents including fake number plate,.

He alleged that the defendant also jumped bail and refused to appear before Zone 2 police station, Onikan, that had earlier granted him bail before he was rearrested and arraigned.

The offence, the prosecution said, contravened the provisions of sections 117, 287, 320, 363 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State.

Chief Magistrate F.M. Kayode-Alamu admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties each in like sum.

Kayode-Alamu adjourned the case until March 7 for mention.
