A Jos Upper Area Court sitting in Kasuwan Nama, on Friday sentenced Peter Chuwang, a 22 years old applicant to two years imprisonment for stealing building materials valued at N625,000.
The Judge, Mr Daniel Damulak, passed the sentence after the convict pleaded guilty to the two-count charge of house breaking and theft and begged the court for leniency.
Damulak, however, gave the convict an option of N50,000 fine, as well as pay a N100,000 as compensation to the complainant.
Earlier, the Police Prosecutor, Insp Ibrahim Gowkat had told the court that the case was reported at the B Division Police Station, Jos, on Nov. 28, 2021 by Okeke James.
The prosecutor told the court that the complainant said on the same date, the accused person Peter Chuwang, an applicant broke into his house located at Rabin Du.
The prosecutor said the accused stole building materials ranging from kitchen tiles valued a N200,000, a window valued at N25,000 and electrical cables valued at N400,000, all items valued at N 625,000.
He further told the court that during police investigation, the accused person pleaded guilty.
According to Gowkat, the offence contravenes Section 333 and 272 of the Plateau State Penal Code Law of Northern Nigeria.
