The Enugu State Taekwondo Association has lined up Taekwondo development activities for 2022 to popularise the sport and discover fresh talents.
The Chairman of the association, Ebere Amaraizu, made this known to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Enugu on Thursday.
Amaraizu said that the association had put up quarterly programmes meant to make the sport a household name in the state.
He noted that the association would be collaborating with the state’s ministries of sports, education as well as culture and tourism to penetrate schools in the hinterland of the state.
According to him, the association wants to use tenets of taekwondo for children’s value re-orientation in the state.
“In this first quarter, the association will carry out a lot of sensitisation events in partnership with some ministries to re-introduce the sport to top government officials, school sports directors, game-masters and the public in general.
“In the second quarter, we are planning massive taekwondo awareness workshop and demonstrations in secondary and primary schools and will be sending out coaches down to schools to follow up students that show interest in the sports.
“It will serve as a catch-them-young programme for the sport as the children will be encouraged by those doing well in the sport in the state.
“For the third quarter, we will carry out clinics and later stage competitions to bring out the best in those talents discovered from various schools.
“We will be inviting famous black belts as well as Uche Chukwumerije, an Olympic medalist, to further motivate the discovered talents for higher national and international glory.
“In the fourth quarter, the association will review and run down all its activities for the year,” he said.
The chairman said that with the drawn-up programmes for the year, the association could engage its stakeholders on areas of support and sponsorship.
