A 45-year-old tenant, Zainab Mustapha, of Kigo Road, Kaduna, on Monday dragged her landlady to a Sharia Court sitting at Magajin Gari, Kaduna, for refusing to refund N120,000 she paid to her as rent.

Mustapha, a Lecturer at the Federal College of Agricultural Produce Technology, Kano, told the court that she paid the money to her landlady on May 9 based on a promise that the landlady would repair the house before she moves in.

“She told me that she has repaired the house; when I packed in, I discovered a lot of leakages on the wall and on the roof.

“When rain falls, my clothes, chairs and other belongings get soaked with water.

“I complained to her but she refused to do anything about it; I want her to give me back my money, I will leave her house for her,” Mustapha said.

The landlady, Fauziya Babangida, a resident of Wushishi Road, Kaduna, agreed to the charge against her.

She however told the court that she brought the needed materials to renovate the house, but that the complainant prevented the workers from effecting repairs on the apartment.

The Judge, Dahiru Lawal, ordered that the house be checked by the court’s personnel to determine if all necessary repairs had been done and there was no more leakage from the roof and on the wall.

He adjourned the case until May 20, for further hearing.
