Celebrated filmmaker, Kunle Afolayan, has explained the style he adopted during the making of his due-to-be-released movie, ‘Swallow’.
Unlike all his initial works, ‘Swallow’ is an adaptation from a published book by award-winning writer, Sefi Atta.
Afolayan’s other films, including ‘Irapada’, ‘The Figurine’ and ‘October One’, are products of normal scripts.
This is unlike what obtains with the career of Afolayan’s mentor, Tunde Kelani, who has a penchant for converting books into films.
Among those the acclaimed producer nicknamed TK has adapted are Akinwumi Ishola’s O le Ku, Femi Osofisan’s Maami and Wole Soyinka’s Lion and the Jewel.
Now, Afolayan has dared his first book and he things highly of the movie that will be out on October 1, 2021.
He says, “This is the very first book I am making into a movie. Once I read the book, I had to decide on what aspect of the book I wanted to focus on and whose perspective I wanted to share based on the story because Swallow as a book focused on the life of Tolani’s mother and Tolani herself. Once that was sorted every other thing was put in place.”
The movie features Ijeoma Grace Agu, Deyemi Okanlawon, Eniola Badmus, Chioma Akpotha, Kevin Ikeduba, Offiong Anthony Edet and Olusegun Remi among others.
