Lagos-based fertility expert, Dr Abayomi Ajayi, has said that it is possible for a virgin to get pregnant.
Many would think that it is in the realm of miracles or fiction that such is possible but the physician said it was in real life.
According to him, the wall of virginity may not totally prevent sperm from penetrating a virgin’s vagina, even when she is not being forced.
Ajayi, who is also the Managing Director and Chief executive Officer of Nordica Fertility Centre in Lagos, and is seasoned at creating public awareness in fertility issues such as the IVF, stated this recently when on ‘Your View’, a TVC programme, monitored by Phenomenal.com.ng.
He said, “The sperm dropped on her can somehow finds its way in. You know it (sperm) moves.”
On the question of infertility, Ajayi warned that men should especially know that lifestyle major contributor to infertility.
According to him, indiscriminate drinking, smoking and exposure to steroid affect infertility.
He also lamented that toxins in the environment was a factor.
Ajayi warned that unleashing sex on women when the man is under artificial powers would not necessarily translate into pregnancy.
“You can shoot, and what you are shooting is blank,” he added.
Saying women too should reduce their expectations from their men, the doctor noted: “Even when men are high and get their wives impregnated, the rate of miscarriage high. The most incredible asset you have is your body. You need to be able to take care of it.”
About Ajayi
Born in 1961, he attended CMS Grammar School, Lagos from 1973 to 1978, and then graduated from the College of Medicine, University of Lagos in 1984.
He completed his postgraduate training at the University College Hospital, Ibadan in 1994 with the fellowship of the West African College of Surgeons in Obstetrics and Gynecology.
He received training in in-vitro fertilisation at the Iscare Centre for Assisted Reproduction, Bratislava, Slovak Republic as well as the Institute of Human Reproduction Symbion, Fruebjerguej (a research centre) and the Fertility Clinic of Copenhagen University, Herlev Hospital, both in Copenhagen, Denmark.
He is also an Alumnus of the Stanford University’s SEED institute for innovation in developing economies .
