Two women on Wednesday appeared in a Chief Magistrates’ Court in Gwagwalada, FCT for allegedly stealing their neighbour’s gold earrings worth N740,000.

The police charge Magdalene Innocent, 22 and Godiya Zingdam, 22; residents of Nuwamlenga village airport road, FCT, with criminal conspiracy, trespass, house breaking and theft.

The Prosecution Counsel, Dabo Yakubu, told the court that the complainant, Mr Muhammed Isah of Nuwamlenge village airport road FCT, filed a petition at the Gwagwalada Area Police Command on May 31.

Yakubu said that the defendants broke into the complainant’s apartment and stole some items in the house.

He said that the women also stole 32-inche plasma television, cash of N318,000, lace materials and wrappers.

The prosecutor said that the offence contravened the provisions of sections 97, 348, 349 and 287 of the Penal Code.

The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The defence counsel, Leslie Mukoro prayed the court to grant his clients bail in the most liberal terms , citing section 158 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act.

Chief Magistrate Aliyu Shafa admitted the defendants to bail in the sum of N500,000 each with one reasonable surety each in like sum who must reside within the court jurisdiction.

Shafa ordered that the surety must provide evidence of his/her NIN or photocopy of National Identity Card.

He warned the defendants to live in peace with the complainant and be of good behaviour.

He adjourned the case until July 26 for hearing.
