An Ikere-Ekiti, Ekiti State-based couple currently need the financial support of all and sundry.
They are not begging, but they need the support to start a frozen fish business.
The husband, Mr Abejide, is a masters degree holder from the Obafemi Awolowo University and all efforts to secure a job have failed.
Championing their cause is media personality, minister of God and life coach, Tope Popoola, who has just hosted them.
Here is how Popoola put their story in a Facebook post on Saturday, June 12:
When he called to let me know that he would be coming from Ikere-Ekiti to see me in church on Sunday, I didn’t know what to expect. But I was least prepared for what I saw when he showed up with his wife and their new-born baby.
He and his wife are both blind.
As he told me his story, I was moved to tears. He holds a Masters degree from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife. He struggled in his state to see himself through two degrees because of his belief that with a Masters, he would stand a better chance of getting a job and not become a burden on anyone.
But his hope in that regard was shattered. Promised employment by the last government in the state, hope in that area was dashed with the coming of a new government. Forced to find a means of surviving without having to hit the streets to beg, he learnt how to make liquid soap. But the challenge of distribution and the stiff competition in that trade meant that he has barely been able to make ends meet, talk less of fending for his family.
Yet Mr. Abejide is resolved on not begging. I asked him what he would like to do. He and his wife told me that they noticed that nobody in their neighbourhood sells frozen fish/meat. They would like to fill that gap. But they need resources to start. A deep freezer, a generator to power it, running costs, initial stock, rental for a small shop etc.
We did a calculation of about ₦800,000 to get them going.
