An Iranian military court has brought charges against 10 officers over the shooting down of a Ukrainian passenger jet in 2020, the Isna news agency reported on Tuesday.
No details were initially known about the background to the charges and accusations, but the prosecution said a verdict was expected soon.
The Ukrainian Boeing was mistakenly shot down by Iranian air defenses shortly after taking off from Tehran on January 8, 2020.
All 176 people on board were killed.
The victims were mainly from Ukraine and Iran, as well as Canada, Afghanistan, Britain, and Sweden.
In a 285-page final report released last month, Iran called it a “human error” and agreed to pay each victim’s family 150,000 dollars in damages.
President Hassan Rowhani had repeatedly called for a trial of those responsible.
The Iranian leadership only admitted to shooting down the plane after initial denials, which led to protests in the country against the government, which was accused of lying.
The incident had also repeatedly led to diplomatic tensions between Tehran and the countries concerned.
