Ekiti State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi, Dr Kayode Fayemi, has spoken on the 2023 presidential battle, in which he is said to have interest.
Although he has not categorically stated it, some of his aides have been overtly promoting the idea.
As a result, they have been having mild clashes with fans of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, who is also believe to be gunning for the post.
But speaking on a programme, ‘Hard Copy’, on CHANNELS TELEVISION on Friday, Fayemi said it was irresistible for any serious politician not to want to be Nigerian President.
He, however, declined to declare if he will contest in 2023.
He said: “I am laughing. You know why? I get asked this question all the time. I don’t know any serious-minded politician who will have the opportunity to govern a country with the blessings that we have – in spite of the challenges – that will not give it a shot but we are not there yet.
“I am considering finishing well in Ekiti in 2022. I have a job. Frankly, I am eternally grateful to Ekiti people for giving me the opportunity to govern the state twice and I still have a lot to deliver on that agenda.
“So, the future will take care of itself. I have no means of knowing what is going to happen but for me, the certainty is that I am the Governor of Ekiti State and that term expires in October 2022. That is the job I have for now.”
Meanwhile, Tinubu, whose 69th birthday is gathering momentum, seems to be digging deeper, especially up North, where he will be the chairman of a major conference.
Besides, he just donated N50m to victims of a market fire in Katsina State.
