Kwara First Lady soccer competition begins

No fewer than 14 female football teams have registered for the maiden edition of the female football championship tagged “1st Lady (Mrs Olufolake AbdulRasaq) 6-a-side Soccer Tournament”.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the competition is being packaged by the Female Football Development Committee of the Kwara Football Association.

In the draws conducted on Tuesday at the FA Secretariat, six teams that will participate in the Schools and Academies category, were drawn into two groups of three each, while the eight teams for the clubs’ category were drawn into two groups of four teams each.

Abimbola Football Academy, Hawau Babes and Offa FC were drawn in Group A in the Schools/Academies category, while Kolo Amazons, Baba Imole female football team from Osi and Pro Games, will play from Group B.

In the club’s category, Abruka Queens, Isin Queens, Unilorin team and Ajike Babes, will play from Group A, while Moje Queens of Erin-Ile, will slug it out with Moro team, Unilorin Director of Sports team, and Elerin Babes in Group B.

According to the organisers, the championship is expected to hold between March 24 to March 31, at the open pitch of the Kwara Stadium Complex, Ilorin.

Chairperson of the organising Committee, Hajia Segilola Alaya disclosed that the championship, which was inaugurated 17 years ago, was meant to fish for hidden talents from the grassroots and to encourage parents to enroll their wards in football activities.

She appealed to stakeholders to contribute to the development of female football in the state.

NAN reports that Hajia Alaya is the Chairperson of the Female Football Development Committee of the Kwara FA.
