Governor Nasir el-Rufai of Kaduna State has restated his stance that he will not negotiate with bandits.
Some northern governors have opted for negotiation and amnesty but El-Rufai said it was a meaningless mission.
Many have seen his position as being possibly responsible for the increased attacks that the state is experiencing from bandits.
But he noted on Tuesday that it was not his job to beg criminals.
At an expanded meeting on security, he said:
“We will not engage with bandits or kidnappers. Private citizens like clerics and clergymen can do so in their individual capacities, to preach to them and ask them to repent. We also want them to repent but it is not our job to ask them to do so.”
