Gov. Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State on Tuesday urged the 2019 Batch `A’ NYSC corps members to assist the government in building a stronger, more united, peaceful and democratic nation.
Ajimobi, represented by the Oyo State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Mr Abayomi Oke, gave the advice at the closing ceremony of the 2019 Batch `A’ Orientation Course at Iseyin.
He urged the corps members to focus on the development of their host communities by identifying viable projects that would positively impact on people’s lives.
The governor advised corps members to be diligent, law abiding in discharging their duties, while shunning truancy and other social vices in the society.
“There are hundreds of areas you can apply combinations of energy, education, skills and zeal to make a huge success story in future.
“I enjoin you to ponder seriously on this in the remaining 11 months of your service,’’ the governor said.
He, however, assured them that the government would not relent in its efforts to address their welfare and ensure their safety in the state.
“The people of Oyo State are loving, peaceful and hospitable, so I assure you that you will find the environment to be enabling and full of opportunities,’’ Ajimobi said.
Earlier, the state NYSC Coordinator, Mrs Eniola Ambekemo, said the orientation exercise was a huge success with the cooperation of all camp participants.
She said that the corps members were made to undergo various leadership trainings, drills, motivational lectures in a bid to broaden their horizon about life.
Ambekemo said the members were also empowered through the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development Programme of the NYSC.
She said the corps members had been posted to all the nooks and crannies of the state as majority of them would serve in schools.
The coordinator also appealed to corps employers to integrate the corps members freely into their work schedule, giving them assignments to handle while providing for their welfare to motivate them.
She further advised the members to endeavour to be good ambassadors of the scheme, their family, while living up to the Motto of the scheme which is “Service and Humility’’.
Ambekemo acknowledged the state government, communities, traditional rulers, other stakeholders and sister agencies for their contributions toward the success of the orientation course.
