An official on Friday announced that two people were found dead, eight missing two days after a mudslide buried 10 people working at an illegal gold mining site in Kalimantan province.

Veyo Kiyora, an official at the local civil protection agency on Wednesday said the miners were working about 60m deep at the mine in West Kutawaringin district when the mudslide occurred.

He said a search operation for the eight missing people is still on.

Deadly accidents are common in illegal mining sites in Indonesia. At least 16 people were killed in September in two similar accidents.
