The relationship between the Nigerian police and Fela’s heritage of Afrika Shrine, Lagos is currently frosty.
They have threatened to shut id down in response to a plan by Fela’s son and afro singer, Seun, to hold an #ENDSARS-related meeting tagged #EndSARS Movement: Lessons and Tasks at the venue on Tuesday.
The police said he should halt the plan or risk getting the Afrika Shrine closed down.
While Seun has cancelled the programme, citing advice from his family, he is however launching a mass-movement project that he believes will help in fighting tyranny.
He noted on IG on Tuesday: “So yesterday the government called my eldest sister @yeniakuti and threatened to close the shrine if I hold my event there tomorrow and also sent a letter to back it up. I respect my families decision not to hold the event as it is but I will still go ahead with all the other organizations to launch THE MOVEMENT OF THE PEOPLE tomorrow and start our political resistance to the tyranny of this oppressive regime.
