Auto mechanic, 23, faces theft charge

A 23-year-old automobile mechanic, Friday Inyama, was on Thursday charged at an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly stealing an unregistered vehicle valued at N2 million.
The defendant whose residential address was not given, is standing trial on a two-count charge bordering on stealing.
The Prosecutor, Mr A. O. Fadipe told the court that the defendant committed the alleged offences on Feb. 28, at No. 10, Ojo Road, Ajegunle area of Lagos.
He said that the defendant was given an unregistered new model Ford SUV to repair and paint the body but the defendant stole the car valued at N2 million.
He said the car belonged to one Mr Amobi Nnadukwe.
According to the prosecutor, the offences contravened Sections 406 and 287 (10) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The defendant pleaded not guilty and his counsel, Mr Adebayo Famoye, urged the court to admit him on bail in the most liberal terms.
The prosecutor did not oppose the application but told court to give a bail condition that would enable the defendant appear in court for his trial.
In his ruling, the Magistrate, Mr Y. O. Aro-Lambo, admitted him to bail in the sum of N200, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
He ordered that one of the sureties should be a blood relative to the defendant and the other should be a community leader or a cleric.
He adjourned the case until May 6, for mention. (NAN)
