Officers of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), Kano State Command, have foiled an attempt to smuggle suspected Indian hemp into the Medium Security Custodial Centre (MSCC) in Kurmawa, Kano.
A 40-year-old resident of Janguza Quarters was apprehended by the facility’s Armed Squad Unit after attempting to throw a package containing the illicit substance over the perimeter wall of the custodial center.
Following the arrest, the Controller of Corrections for Kano State Command, Ahmed Yusuf-Lakpene, commended the officers for their vigilance and swift response. He reiterated the command’s strict zero-tolerance policy against the introduction of prohibited items into correctional facilities.
The suspect has been handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation and prosecution. Authorities reaffirmed their ongoing commitment to tightening security across all custodial centers in the state to ensure safe, secure environments for inmate rehabilitation.
