Nollywood actor Yul Edochie has defended polygamy, insisting that marrying more than one wife is not a sin against God.
In a post shared on his official X account on Tuesday, Edochie cited biblical figures who had multiple wives, arguing that God did not condemn them for the practice.
“POLYGAMY IS NOT A SIN. Even in the bible, many great men there had many wives and God never had issues with them. He was even willing to give them more,” he wrote.
The actor further claimed that many men today are destined to have multiple wives but choose to remain in monogamous marriages because they do not understand their supposed purpose or fear society’s reaction.
“Today, many men are destined to have many wives but because they don’t know who they are and scared of what society will say they end up having just one and life doesn’t seem to be working for them,” he added.
In a follow-up post, Edochie expressed agreement with the views of US-based pastor Israel Ford, who recently announced his second marriage, writing: “I totally agree. It is the will of God.”
Ford, who leads LifeWorks Church in Wickliffe, Ohio, recently introduced his second wife, Shakayla Ford, during a church service attended by his first wife, Lydia Ford.
Edochie has repeatedly defended polygamy since publicly announcing his marriage to actress Judy Austin as his second wife in 2022.
