Portugal are hoping to welcome Cristiano Ronaldo back to the national team in November despite an ongoing disciplinary investigation into his departure from the squad.
Portuguese Football Federation president, Pedro Proença, has expressed confidence that the 41-year-old forward will return during the next international break, saying the federation, coaching staff and players want him back.
The development comes after Portugal’s Football Federation provisionally suspended Ronaldo on October 10 and opened urgent disciplinary proceedings over his departure from the national team camp in Copenhagen on September 30.
Ronaldo reportedly left the camp following a disagreement with head coach, Jorge Jesus, over his role in the team.
He later apologised to his teammates and supporters, accepting responsibility for his actions and expressing his willingness to face any punishment imposed.
However, the final disciplinary decision has not been announced, and his potential return in November remains dependent on the outcome of the proceedings.
Portugal are scheduled to face Denmark on November 14 before travelling to play Wales three days later in their final UEFA Nations League group-stage fixtures.
For now, the federation’s public position suggests it wants to resolve the situation and retain its captain, although the disciplinary committee will determine the outcome of the case.
