Prince Abubakar Audu University (PAAU), Anyigba, Kogi State, has approved the graduation of 44 first-class graduands and withdrawn 56 students for academic deficiencies, while another student was expelled for examination misconduct.
The decisions were taken at the 168th Regular Meeting of the university’s Senate held on Sept. 30.
PAAU Director of Public Affairs, Uredo Omale, said the 56 withdrawn students included 11 who performed poorly academically, 38 who failed to register for two consecutive semesters and seven who had failed modules and course deficiencies.
She said the seven students with failed modules were from the Medical Laboratory Science Department, while those withdrawn for non-registration came from various departments, including Accounting, Physics, Forestry and Wildlife, Law and Theatre Arts.
The 44 first-class graduands came from several departments, with Forestry producing the highest number at eight, followed by Physiology with six. Other departments included Agriculture, Computer Science, Economics, Microbiology, Pharmacology, Anatomy, Biochemistry, Accounting and Business Administration.
The Senate also approved the expulsion of Jude Itodo of the Department of Plant Sciences and Biotechnology for gross examination misconduct, following the report of the Examination Misconduct Committee.
Vice-Chancellor and Chairman of Senate, Prof. Salisu Usman, congratulated the first-class graduands and urged them to maintain the discipline and hard work that earned them the distinction.
The university directed the withdrawn and expelled students to surrender all institutional property, including identity cards, to the security unit before leaving the campus.
