First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has urged Nigerians to choose unity over division, hope over despair, and love and peace over conflict as the country marks its 66th Independence Anniversary.

Tinubu said the anniversary provided an opportunity to celebrate Nigeria’s remarkable journey and honour the sacrifices of those who laid the foundation for its freedom.

She said Nigeria had overcome various challenges, embraced change and continued to build a stronger and more prosperous nation since gaining independence in 1960.

The First Lady described Nigeria’s diversity as one of the country’s greatest assets, urging citizens to nurture it through peace, tolerance, dialogue, unity and patriotism.

“We celebrate the remarkable journey of a resilient nation and honour the sacrifices of those who laid the foundation for our freedom,” she said.

Tinubu also called on Nigerians at home and abroad to work together towards achieving the Nigeria envisioned by the country’s founding fathers.

Quoting Martin Luther King Jr., she said, “Love is the most durable power in the world.”

The First Lady prayed for God’s continued protection over Nigeria, strength for its unity, and guidance for its leaders.

She also prayed for enduring peace, prosperity and progress for the nation and wished Nigerians a happy 66th Independence Anniversary.
